Yuji Gozeki Aohen Black Tea Bowl Void#24

Aohen black tea bowl is a masterpiece by Hiroshi Gozeki, a pottery maker in Ibaraki Prefecture. Due to the coincidence of firing, the liquid containing blue that has accumulated on the shelves of the anagama kiln drips silently to the outside of the vessel, and the blue space that is created there is the very “Void” created by nature. In this work, large voids appear powerfully in two places in the front, and a faint skein floats in the center, giving off a clear blue sparkle like a jewel. On the other side, there are two points of gray glaze on the jet black body, and the color develops in a round shape.
It looks as if it was drawn intentionally. Void is formed both inside and outside, and the contrast with the golden yellow of the surrounding gray glaze adds to the dramatic scenery. The combination of coincidence and necessity that can only be achieved through anagama kilns makes this a true masterpiece, full of gorgeous and cosmic colors.
