Iron-rich glaze runs dramatically over the white surface, creating scorched areas, crawling, and speckled textures across the entire bowl. Together with the irregular rim and powerful swelling of the body, the chawan has an unmistakably wild presence.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis piece was also fired using a technique known as hiki-otoshi, in which the bowl is dropped directly into the flames of the climbing kiln and exposed to intense heat.
