Regarding the Takeshi Nishiura Exhibition of Rare Masterpieces

Takeshi Nishiura, a master potter of Echizen, sadly passed away in November 2024. Last April, we had the honor of presenting a memorial exhibition of his work. A little over a year later, we received an email from his daughter, Tomoko, who had kindly assisted us with that exhibition.

“While sorting through my father’s studio, I came across several works that he had left behind. I thought it would be wonderful if as many people as possible could have the opportunity to see them, so I wanted to get in touch.”

We immediately travelled to his studio in Fukui to view the works in person. There, we discovered a remarkable collection, including pieces in his distinctive Hekisa glaze that even I had never seen before, as well as beautiful works that appeared to have been carefully kept by Nishiura himself at significant moments throughout his life as a potter.

From among them, we have selected 21 exceptional works, including tea bowls and sake vessels, which we are now delighted to present.

These are truly once-in-a-lifetime works left behind by a master potter who devoted his life to clay in Echizen.
