This latest work by Yūji Goseki was fired in the kiln of Mashiko ceramic artist Shikamaru Takeshita. Through dramatic temperature shifts and a strong reduction atmosphere, metallic-state particles emerge on the surface, creating a powerful landscape where vivid silvering and deep blue intersect with striking intensity.

Inside the bowl, the surface shifts into complex tones within a matte texture, offering a depth distinct from the exterior. Around the foot, high heat has caused the glaze to pool, vividly conveying the fierce energy of the flames during firing.

In Goseki’s own words, Takeshita’s firing method is “the complete opposite of the thinking behind my own kiln practice.” The result is a truly one-of-a-kind sōhenkoku work, born from the remarkable synchronicity between Takeshita’s highly considered firing and Goseki’s artistic vision.
