Although traces of the summer heat still remain, we are beginning to feel cooler breezes in the evenings, and little by little, the presence of autumn is growing stronger.
As the season gradually deepens, we are pleased to present the “Mid-Autumn Masterpiece Chawan Exhibition – Impressionism –”, opening at 8:00 PM on September 19.
This year, under the theme of Impressionism, we will introduce 17 newly created chawan by participating artists.
From the Impressionists, who sought to capture fleeting moments of light and time, to the Post-Impressionists, who pursued something more enduring beyond that light, there is a certain resonance with ceramics.
In the kiln, ceramic artists embrace glaze effects and kiln transformations that may appear only for an instant. At the same time, over many years, each artist continues to pursue a personal language of form, color, clay, and surface.
Chance and intention.
The fleeting and the enduring.
Perhaps it is precisely in the space between these opposites that much of the beauty of a chawan can be found.
We hope you will enjoy these works, each born from an artist’s ongoing dialogue with clay and fire, and take the time to contemplate them slowly on an autumn evening.
